of the city. A taxi from the airport to
downtown is approximately RMB150.

Shenzhen lies at the intersection of the
rail routes between Beijing-Kowloon, Beijing-Guangzhou
and Guangzhou-Kowloon and trains to Guangzhou
(2 1/2 hours, RMB 41 or RMB65) operate frequently.
The queues at the station are very long,
and it's best to get your ticket through
a hotel if possible. The rail line (the
KCR) to Hong Kong is also extremely convenient
and it takes 45 minutes to reach Kowloon
(HK$33). The train station is right on the

your required platform.

Tips in PRC
Climate
The climate in Shenzhen is
similar to Hong Kong and temperatures here
can be almost sub tropical with intense
summer heat and lots of rain!
The summers here are exceptionally long,
running for about six months and temperatures
can reach 35 degrees C. The winters in this
city are much more bearable however, and
temperatures rarely drop below 10 degrees
C. August and September are the best seasons
to visit when the temperature is pleasant
and the days are long.
Attractions
Compared with its neighboring
cities, Shenzhen does not have many natural
scenic spots but it does have a few attractions
The China Folk Culture Villages, a place
that incorporates 24 ethnic minority villages
from throughout China in downtown Shenzhen
and is interesting. Also, the Guanlan Golf
Club is a great place for a few rounds with
business partners although it is expensive.
Passports
and passes:
Although Chinese tourists require a special
"frontier pass" to enter Shenzhen,
non Chinese do not. When you enter the Special
Economic Zone (SEZ) by bus however, the
local police and customs officers will board
to check passports and frontier passes.
If you travel through the zone by taxi,
you have to get out of your vehicle at the
border and walk through customs, picking
up your taxi on the other side again. You
may be asked to show your passport while
visiting ShenZhen and regulations can make
getting around rather time consuming.
Visas:
Visitors are permitted to
stay in Shenzhen for up to 30 days witht
a Chinese visitor Visa. However, you are
not allowed to travel elsewhere in the country
and must stay within the city boundaries.

Shenzhen operates a dual currency system.
Hong Kong dollars and Chinese Renminbi can
be used to pay for things, but only RMB
is usually given as change. Most hotels
will exchange money and there is an exchange
bureau at the Hong Kong border in the train
station.
