Commerce chief: Yuan's depreciation 'small and normal'
BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The recent depreciation of China's currency against the U.S. dollar was normal and China won't rely on a weaker yuan to boost exports, Commerce Minister Chen Deming said on Thursday.
"The recent small fluctuation of the yuan against the dollar was completely normal. I'd call it the dollar strengthening, rather than the yuan depreciating," Chen told reporters at the fifth China-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED).

Chinese Volunteerism Boosted in 2008
Li Shuo will never forget what she did this summer.

China Honors Charitarians with President Meeting
Chinese President Hu Jintao met with domestic and foreign charitarians and groups on Friday morning, ahead of a ceremony to honor their contribution.
About 227 individuals, 188 enterprises and 32 organizations received the awards at the Second China Charity Conference, hosted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as an apparent gesture to address the country's charity affairs.
